Maggie Toulouse Oliver, NM Secretary of State

Jack,

Donald Trump has yet again resorted to fear-mongering as a way to undermine our democratic process, keep voters away from voting, and steal the election.

During a recent Fox News interview, he proposed appointing law enforcement officials to be poll watchers on Election Day—a scare tactic surely meant to discourage communities of color from voting.

His voter suppression tactics have taken a new low. First, he tried to close down polling stations in primarily Democratic regions—making it difficult for those in low-income neighborhoods or rural areas, and those with limited transportation, to cast their ballots. Then, he made plans to sabotage the USPS, going so far as to having his Postmaster General order the removal of collection boxes and limit Postal Service hours in order to restrict mail-in voting. And now this—the threat of bringing armed police forces to the polling booths.

When so many Americans, especially people of color, wake up in fear of government force and police brutality, Trump's plan to deploy further authoritarian force to our polling locations is utterly unacceptable.

Through these threats and warnings from Trump, I'm doing everything as your Secretary of State to ensure that the general election is fair, safe, and accessible for every New Mexican to cast a ballot—whether that's in-person or by-mail.

But in order to strengthen my efforts and continue fighting to clean up our state's politics, I need your help educating voters on their rights and warning the public of Trump's rampant voter suppression. Will you pitch in to help me protect the integrity of our democracy and defend your voting rights?
