SWANSEA, MA – AUGUST 6, 2026 — Seth Aitken, the Republican candidate for Bristol County District Attorney, issued a statement today addressing the news that former Governor Charlie Baker and former Lt. Governor Karyn Polito will headline a Boston-based fundraiser for his opponent, Democratic State Representative Chris Markey, on August 13. Aitken embraced the announcement, characterizing Markey’s reliance on high-profile Boston political figures as a sign that his own campaign’s grassroots message of independent, community-focused leadership is successfully resonating with voters across Bristol County. “My opponent's decision to seek out this endorsement from old political allies is evidence that he is genuinely concerned about the challenge in front of him,” Aitken said. “He sees how my campaign is resonating with so many voters who are tired of entrenched career politicians doing the bidding of a self-serving political machine. I take it as a compliment.” Aitken, a former assistant district attorney and Fall River City Administrator, is running to modernize the DA’s office and deliver fresh leadership following the upcoming retirement of incumbent Thomas Quinn III. Rejecting the traditional playbook of courting state party elites, Aitken noted that a truly independent prosecutor must answer only to the community, not the political establishment. " Unlike Mr. Markey, I am not seeking the support of political insiders or Boston power brokers—I’m asking for the support of the people I’m running to serve: the people of Bristol County,” Aitken continued. The Aitken campaign is focused on mobilizing everyday residents who want a prosecutor unbeholden to the state's political machine, centering its platform on accountability, fairness, and public safety. “This campaign belongs to the voters of Bristol County: working families, parents, seniors, small-business owners, and everyday residents,” Aitken said. “Our campaign will be built by ordinary people, one conversation and one contribution at a time. We don't have a political machine. We have something better: the heart, trust, and determination of this community. Together, we can defeat the insiders and deliver the leadership Bristol County deserves.” For more information on Seth Aitken’s campaign for Bristol County District Attorney, or to find out how to get involved, please visit Aitken4DA.com. ### Seth Aitken is a Fall River attorney licensed in Massachusetts state and federal courts, with a diverse legal background as an Assistant District Attorney, criminal defense attorney, and city administrator.
