Folks, it's back.

If you missed last year's briefing: "corn sweat" is a real meteorological phenomenon where millions of acres of Midwest corn release water vapor into the air, cranking up humidity and making already-brutal heat waves feel actively hostile.

It is, and I cannot stress this enough, a real scientific term, and it is currently cooking Illinois.

Here's the actual point buried in the corn-sweat jokes: this kind of heat is here to stay.

You know the old story about the frog in the pot? Turn the heat up gradually enough, and it never notices it's boiling until it's too late.

That's where we are with climate change, except we've had decades of scientists banging on the side of the pot, and half of Washington still insists the water feels fine.

As DCCC Climate Chair, I spend a lot of time explaining that "extreme weather" isn't an abstraction for future generations to deal with.

It's your constant flight delays, your spiking energy bill, your tomato plants giving up in June. Climate change is unnecessary, stressful, expensive, and it's already here.

The good news: American ingenuity built the modern grid, modern agriculture, and (eventually) air conditioning. We can build a clean energy economy too.

The bad news: Instead of helping that transition along, Republicans are doing the opposite. They’re handing out subsidies to an oil industry that's already posting record profits, while everyday families eat the cost at the pump and on their energy bills.

The other good news: We can build something better...IF we elect people who take climate change seriously instead of declaring "war on crops" every time it gets humid.

If you can spare a few bucks to help me keep fighting for real climate solutions instead of corn-based scapegoats, I'd appreciate it. [[link removed]]
