Dear Friend,
You may have been following GLAAD’s critical election work over the last several weeks. Early in the election season, GLAAD released “Covering 2020: The Issues,” a guide for journalists and LGBTQ advocates which identifies key issues affecting the LGBTQ community. The guide highlights many of the pressing issues affecting LGBTQ people in America, including discrimination and equality, healthcare, transgender safety and acceptance, religious exemptions from federal non-discrimination laws, and more.
More recently, we monitored the Democratic and Republican National Conventions, GLAAD watched and monitored for everything LGBTQ-related, providing notes of LGBTQ inclusion, fact-checking, and background information on key issues, and when necessary, providing the anti-LGBTQ backgrounds of the speakers.
GLAAD has stood up to the false statements made by Richard Grenell, the gay former ambassador to Germany and former acting Director of National Intelligence, who released a LGBTQ campaign video one week ago which falsely asserted that President Trump is “the strongest ally that gay Americans have ever had in the White House.” We laid the groundwork for this fact-checking through years of work on the Trump Accountability Project, which has documented over 160 different attacks on the rights of LGBTQ Americans.
Friend, with only 62 days left until the election, GLAAD’s work has never been more important. We must continue to speak truth to power, highlight the issues that matter most to our community, and hold candidates accountable for representing our interests. Friend, please give now to support this critical work, and we will send you a selction from our voter merchandise so you can show the world that you won’t sit this one out!
With gratitude,
Your friends at GLAAD
