Friends and Neighbors,
We cannot have a functioning, completely open economy without affordable and safe child care. Working families need real solutions, which is why I recently voted to pass the Child Care is Essential Act and the Child Care for Economic Recovery Act.
Together these bills will:
- Offer stabilization grants to cover personnel costs, sanitation and other goods necessary to reopen child care facilities.
- Support child care workers by requiring employers to keep them at their pay pre-COVID in order to receive these grants.
- Support essential workers who need access and funding to facilities for child care.
- Provide state grants to expand child care facilities and reconfigure them in response to the coronavirus.
This legislation provides necessary support for families that need to get back to work and helps child care providers reopen safely.
I have fought for working families by fighting for paid family leave, and now I am continuing that fight by advocating for these essential child care bills.
