Continued Temporary Housing Assistance

Rental Assistance and Continued Temporary Housing Assistance [ [link removed] ]

The deadline for *Rental Assistance* and *Continued Temporary Housing Assistance* for Los Angeles County wildfire survivors has been extended [ [link removed] ], providing additional resources to both owners and renters.

The deadline has been extended to July 9, 2027, for qualified homeowners and to October 9, 2026, for renters working toward permanent, safe housing following the 2025 Los Angeles County wildfires.

If you still need financial help for temporary housing support, now is the time to reach out to *FEMA* and explore what resources may be available under the extension.

If you registered with FEMA prior to March 31, 2025, and have not found permanent housing, received any FEMA funding for Rental Assistance (RA), or insurance coverage has run out for a rental, you could be eligible for Rental Assistance.

Registered households are encouraged to call the FEMA Helpline at 800-621-3362 or make updates to your FEMA application on www.DisasterAssistance.gov [ [link removed] ] to request Rental Assistance.

Also, almost 800 households will continue to receive critical federal housing assistance allowing FEMA’s approval of California’s request to extend its financial housing assistance, if they meet new FEMA criteria.

*What Is FEMA RA and CTHA?*

FEMA’s Rental Assistance (RA) helps eligible homeowners and renters pay for temporary housing if their primary residence was damaged by the 2025 Los Angeles Wildfires.

Initial RA for this event is a two‑month grant to help cover temporary housing costs that can include deposit, rent, and utilities.

If you remain displaced from your home following the initial RA grant and you can show documentation that RA was used for temporary housing, you may request Continued Temporary Housing Assistance (CTHA).

CTHA provides additional rental assistance following the initial RA grants in increments of 3 months.

If you are a FEMA registered homeowner or renter who remains displaced from your home and you have exhausted insurance benefits or all other your rental resources, you should contact FEMA to determine your eligibility for RA or the CTHA program.

More information on rental assistance is here [ [link removed] ].

You can return your CTHA request form and supporting documents to FEMA in any of the following ways:

*Online:* Upload documents to your FEMA disaster assistance account at DisasterAssistance.gov [ [link removed] ]

*By mail:*

P.O. Box 10055
Hyattsville, MD 20782‑8055

*By fax:* 800‑827‑8112

*Recognize the Signs and Report Exploitation, Human Trafficking: *Natural disasters, like the recent LA wildfires, create chaos and displacement leaving many people vulnerable to exploitation including human trafficking.

People seeking work after a disaster should be cautious about job offers that sound too good to be true. Human traffickers use false promises of high wages and effortless jobs to lure people into dangerous situations. Click here [ [link removed] ] to learn more.

*Why Some Burn Scar Areas Are Placed Under Evacuation Warnings and Orders During Heavy Rainstorms: *After any significant wildfire involving mountains, canyons, foothills, and similar areas, there will be *increased risks during heavy rainstorms of debris flows, rockslides, mudslides, and flooding* for up to five years, whether or not the wildfire reached residential areas. This is primarily because it takes soil and vegetation conditions time to recover. That's what puts downhill and downstream areas at increased risk.
