John,
I have good news and bad news. I am going to start with the good, because I
think you deserve to hear it.
July was the strongest grassroots fundraising month of this entire campaign.
While Sabato's Crystal Ball was moving 14 races toward Democrats. While James
Talarico's billionaire backers were writing $10 million checks. While the
national environment was shifting against Republicans at every turn, Texas
conservatives showed up in a way that I will never forget.
You gave more in July than in any month since this campaign began. Not because
a single mega-donor wrote a massive check. Because thousands of grassroots
conservatives across this state and this country decided that Texas was worth
fighting for.
That is the good news. And it is genuinely great news.
Now here is the bad news.
Fox News just released a new poll showing James Talarico leading me 51% to
48%. This is Fox News. Not a Democratic pollster. Not a liberal outlet.Fox News
. And their poll shows Talarico over 50% for the first time in this race.
Here is what the numbers show. Talarico has 98% of Democrats. He has 68% of
independents. And 24% of non-MAGA Republicans are supporting him. That last
number is the one that concerns me most. Nearly one in four Republicans who did
not back President Trump is currently planning to vote for a Democrat who
believes God is nonbinary, calls the American flag a complicated symbol, and
wants a welcome mat at the southern border.
I am not going to sugarcoat this. These numbers are serious.
But here is what I know. The margin of error on the Fox News poll is plus or
minus 3 points. This race is not over. Among undecided voters, more lean toward
me than toward Talarico. And the grassroots momentum we built in July proves
that when conservatives show up, we can compete.
The question is whether we can keep that momentum going into August...
James Talarico has raised $70 million. He has the national media telling the
story he wants told.What I have is you, and the strongest grassroots month this
campaign has ever seen.
Let us make August even stronger.
