John, we won.
Sixteen months ago we kicked off a campaign that all the pundits and
politicians, the very serious people, said could never succeed.
Well, the votes have been counted. And guess what we just showed them?
That a movement of the people, by the people, and for the people can never

We beat $70 million of spending. We beat the cynicism of a politics that
says people won't think for themselves. We beat Washington insiders. And
we beat the hell out of AIPAC.
I did not do this. We did this. Everyone who knocked on a door, made a
call, sent a dollar, posted a story. The UAW. The AFT. The Nurses.
Volunteers who canvassed in the heat instead of writing checks. People who
gave $10 they did not have.

So let's be honest about what happens now. The general election starts
now, and we begin as the underdog.
Mike Rogers is Trump's handpicked candidate, a 30-year career politician
with statewide name recognition. He has been running unopposed for 16
months, and Republicans have already spent more than $45 million building
him up.
We just fought through the most expensive Democratic Senate primary in
history, and we spent everything we had to win it. We start the general
election on empty. Rogers starts it loaded.
I like being an underdog. Let's keep that energy.
The next 48 hours are the first test of this general election. What we
raise right now gets read by every politician and pundit in this country
as the measure of how strong we are heading into November.

Over the next few days, you are going to hear the press try to decide what
this election is about. Three questions, on repeat:

in your pocket, Medicare for All.
→ Can we survive the money? More than $70 million from AIPAC and corporate
interests has already come at this campaign, and more is on the way.
→ Will Michigan decide the Senate majority? We have the opportunity to be
the 51st vote.
That's what they think this election is about. Here's what we think it's
about:
Whether working people in Michigan get a government that answers to them,
instead of one that answers to whoever writes the biggest campaign checks.
Every one of those key questions resolves our way only if we make it about
that.
It just shouldn't be this hard, in the richest country in the world, to
see a doctor, to afford your groceries, to know your kid will have it a
little better than you did.
That's what we've been saying across 90 cities and in 350 public events,
and it's what we'll say every day between now and November 3rd.

Now, let’s talk about the man on the other side of this.
I was in high school when Mike Rogers introduced the National Pain Care
Policy Act. It set Big Pharma loose to deal opioids like candy. By the
time I got to medical school, his legislation was why my classmates and I
were taught that pain was a “vital sign” and that opioids were the most
important medicine we had to offer our patients. A decade after that, as a
health director, I watched the worst of the epidemic he helped create come
into full view. It's why we put free Narcan vending machines in 100
locations across Wayne County.
More than 600,000 Americans died. Here in Michigan, 17,000 moms, dads,
sisters, brothers, aunts, uncles, daughters and sons. I bet you know
someone, and I do too.
He never apologized. He took over $400,000 from the drug companies that
profited. He spent 30 years in Washington, came out up to $14 million
richer working for the very corporations he used to regulate, then moved
to Florida. He still can't explain that money. He says he made it golfing
with his buddies.
I don't take corporate money. Never have, never will. Which means the only
people I answer to are you.
That's the choice in November. Someone who works for working people, or
someone who has already shown you exactly who he works for.
The next 48 hours decide whether we spend the fall chasing MAGA Mike, or
whether he wakes up Thursday looking at an avalanche of grassroots money
he can't match. He has the corporations. We have each other, and there are
a lot more of us.
