Tonight, Michigan made history.

This was a tough fight, but voters across the state chose a new generation of leaders who reflect the strength, diversity, and values of their communities. Among them is Abdul El-Sayed, whose victory in the Democratic primary for U.S. Senate marks a historic moment for Michigan and for Muslim Americans across the country.

This victory happened because our communities organized. Because students and retirees made phone calls. Because families talked to neighbors. Because our donors invested in a vision. Because coalition partners showed up. And because voters refused to sit on the sidelines.

This is what people-powered politics looks like.

This election cycle, together, we:

  • Knocked on 16,530 doors
  • Made over 579,000 phone calls
  • Sent over 1,000,000 text messages

Every door knocked was an opportunity to listen. Every text started a conversation. Every phone call brought another voter into our movement.

For years, Muslim Americans have been told to wait our turn, lower our expectations, or settle for simply being represented. Tonight is another reminder that when our communities organize, we do more than participate.

We lead.

This victory belongs to every volunteer who gave up evenings and weekends, every organizer who built relationships block by block, every donor who invested in this movement, every coalition partner who stood alongside us, and every voter who cast a ballot believing that a better future is possible.

Tonight, we celebrate.

But tomorrow? Tomorrow we get back to work, because November is around the corner, and the fight will be even harder. 

The general election starts now, and the work ahead will require all of us. We'll be knocking more doors, reaching more voters, training more volunteers, and expanding our organizing efforts across Michigan.
