I am so inspired and deeply grateful to each of you who acted with deep intention and voted in this election. Given the circumstances of our daily lives and the barriers many folx face getting to the ballot box, your vote is meaningful and critical.
For the parent in Boston who made time in between errands and meals and childcare to fill out and return a mail-in ballot. For the worker in Randolph juggling two jobs who found an hour to participate in early voting. For the young person in Chelsea who set a reminder to go vote today — maybe for the first time.
You found a way. That alone is a victory and a testament to the power of the movement we’ve built together and what’s at stake in this election.
Every day, but especially on days like this, I’m so honored to represent the Massachusetts 7th. And tonight, I am humbled by the support we have received from communities throughout the District.
In all of our communities, people are feeling the hurt of overlapping crises of public health, economic inequality, and systemic racism. Small business owners who fear their businesses will not survive the pandemic. Families grieving loved ones lost to this virus. Essential workers too often forced to choose between their livelihoods and their health.
Folx who’ve lost jobs and are worried about how they’ll make the rent or pay their student loans. Black folx who are criminalized, threatened, and killed in their own communities. These challenges are unprecedented, but they are not unfamiliar.
We need bold, progressive policies which meet the scale of these challenges, and that address the deeply rooted inequities and disparities facing our communities.
We need Medicare for All, a Green New Deal, an Essential Workers’ Bill of Rights, a People’s Justice Guarantee, and so much more. And I remain committed to working in deep partnership with all of you to do that work — to center humanity and dignity in our public policy and to make sure it's responsive to your lived experiences, your struggles, and to your ideas and innovation too.
Tonight, you all delivered — again — a mandate for bold, transformative change. A mandate that builds on the work that we have done together over the past two years in pursuit of equity and justice.
Thank you for your sweat, your sacrifice, your solidarity. Our work together continues. And the state of our movement is strong.
