Friend,
If you’ve ever had a job, it’s hard to imagine life without
weekends -- or without laws that prohibit young children from working,
mandate safe working conditions, and ensure that every worker gets
paid a minimum wage. So much of what we take for granted in the
workplace was made possible by union members and labor activists, and
today we show our gratitude by honoring their
accomplishments.
Our nation has made great strides towards protecting
hard-working Americans families, but we’ve still got a long way to go.
Around the country, Republican state legislatures are enacting
anti-worker laws and exploiting immigrant laborers. And while the cost
of living steadily rises, wages across American industries remain
stagnant. This cause belongs to all of us -- and it’s our
responsibility to fight for dignity, protection, and living wages for
every worker, not just today, but every day.
I’m proud to stand with hard-working
Americans, and I’m proud to wish you all a Happy Labor Day! Today we
commemorate, but tomorrow it’s back to work.
Best, Ted
