The Republican holdouts on the Judiciary Committee are about to make Todd
Blanche the next Attorney General of the United States.

Their cover: two statements, one signed by Todd Blanche late Sunday night,
and the other unsigned, that supposedly kill Trump's $1.8 billion slush
fund and limit the IRS giveaway.

I've read this supposed "deal,"
John, and I want you to know
exactly why it fails to meet the smell test:

It doesn't prevent future payouts to the violent insurrectionists Trump
pardoned for attacking police officers.

It doesn't prevent the administration from bringing the slush fund back
from the dead next week, or from using the Justice Department's Judgment
Fund for the same illicit purpose.

And it leaves in place a tax-immunity deal that could help Trump and his
family avoid paying taxes on the $2.3 billion he made last year. It also
merely expresses an interpretation of who the tax deal applies to —
leaving Trump to challenge that interpretation in court.

Todd Blanche says he stands by his testimony from before our committee
last month. He pledged — under oath — to provide Congress with assistance
on a bill to make the death of Donald Trump's slush fund enforceable by
law. So what assistance has he provided in the month since he made that
promise?

No bill. No assistance. Nothing. Nada.

These Judiciary Committee Republicans should not settle for anything less
than the Acting Attorney General keeping his promise, and helping us write
the death of this slush fund into law. And for the rest of us, no parsing
of this sham settlement should be enough to overcome Blanche’s terrible
leadership of DOJ.

I’ll keep fighting, but the way we kill this slush fund and IRS sham for
good is to flip four seats, take back the Senate, and put people in charge
who answer to you instead of Donald Trump.
