Jack, July ended short.

Not catastrophically—we're still here, still publishing, still doing the
work. But we did miss our goal by a lot, and we're starting August carrying
that. No cushion, no buffer, no corporate parent to smooth it over.

We're not going to pretend July didn't happen. We're also not going to
manufacture a crisis around it—August is three days old and the month-end
pressure isn't real yet.

What is real: we need August to be stronger than July. That starts now, not
at the end of the month when the deadline emails kick in. The readers who give
early in the month are the ones who make the difference before it becomes
urgent.

No countdown. No gap number. Just: July was hard and August needs to start
better. Please donate $5 to Daily Kos.
