This week brought exciting news for the Commonwealth, with new state rankings placing Virginia among the best in the nation for business and jobs, alongside recognition for a piece of legislation I patronized that is helping a local small business owner grow. I also stayed engaged with public safety matters affecting our community and took part in a Joint Commission on Health Care meeting focused on the issues shaping health policy across Virginia. Read on for the highlights, including a great cause supporting Supervisor Saines' school drive.
In Richmond
President Trump's Speech On Election Integrity
I want to address the growing misinformation surrounding the 2020 election and the renewed efforts by President Trump to cast doubt on the integrity of upcoming elections.
Virginia's elections are administered by trained local officials under a decentralized system with bipartisan oversight, robust security measures, and post-election verification. The U.S. Intelligence Community found no evidence that any foreign actor altered voter registration, ballots, vote tabulation, or election results in 2020 [[link removed]] , though it concluded that foreign adversaries sought to spread misinformation to undermine public confidence in our democratic process.
During our recent legislative sessions, Virginia continued strengthening election administration, voter protections, ballot-processing procedures, and oversight of local election officials. [[link removed]] These measures were intended to improve consistency, accountability, voter access, and confidence in the Commonwealth’s elections:
- Rejoining ERIC to help maintain accurate voter rolls.
- Requiring every vote to be cast on a verifiable paper ballot with independently tested voting equipment.
- Clarifying that certifying election results is a mandatory duty of local electoral boards.
- Protecting voters and election officials from intimidation and safeguarding personal information.
- Expanding early voting, improving voter registration, and making it easier for eligible Virginians to cast their ballots securely.
Virginia has a strong record of administering free, fair, secure, and transparent elections. Our local registrars and election officials serve voters of every political affiliation and administer elections in accordance with state and federal law, not at the direction of any political candidate or administration.
Healthy debate is essential to democracy, but baseless claims about election integrity only undermine public confidence, discourage participation, and put election workers at risk.
No president, political party, or outside organization has the authority to override the lawful votes of Virginians.
In Virginia, the people choose their representatives, and we will continue protecting every eligible person's right to cast a ballot and have it counted accurately.

Our Legislation Gets More P ress!
Over the past week, legislation I patronized that is now effective law has garnered some recognition!
The first was an article from the Piedmont Journal Recorder highlighting a bipartisan piece of legislation that is warmly referred to as the “cottage food bill”. This idea came straight from a constituent, a small business owner who wants to grow her home bakery by taking more orders. This piece of legislation does just that, by expanding Virginia code to allow home prepared foods to be sold and delivered via mail or by delivery service, as current code only allowed in-person transactions. I am honored that this bill was covered by the press, and I will continue my trend of champion legislation that helps constituents economically.

The second recognition this week was from Freedom Virginia, where they named me a 2026 Affordability Champion! Freedom Virginia was an essential partner in the fight for my “click-to-cancel” bill to become signed into law, and I am honored for this recognition as a fighter for the people!

Being recognized for legislative victories is always a humbling experience, a feeling that is only made better when these pieces of legislation come from Constituents. This year, my click-to-cancel bill and my bill targeting child predators gained coverage from cable stations ABC 13 [[link removed]] and ABC 8 [[link removed]] . I am extremely proud of these bills being recognized, and I hope that future legislative wins for American families continue to be highlighted!

I recently attended the Southern Legislative Conference in Kentucky, where Data center policy was front and center at many of the learning sessions.

JCHC
On July 8th, the Joint Commission on Health Care met for more presentations and updates on the state of healthcare systems across the Commonwealth. The first presentation was an overview on the budget and its effects on Virginia healthcare systems and services, diving into where our tax dollars are going to make sure Virginians have access to quality care. The second presentation was an update on healthcare workforce initiatives, with a focus on nursing. One of the most important things to note is that the Virginia Department of Health is unveiling an updated nursing incentive program, so if you or someone you know is looking into nursing school, visit the VDH website on August 1st to see more on applications!
Our last presentation was from the Virginia Task Force on Primary Care, which updated us on data and trends of Virginian’s primary care access. Presentations like this highlight the effects of HR1 on citizens of the Commonwealth no matter where they are located, and I am grateful that we have such dedicated researchers to keep my colleagues and I so informed. Lastly, we discussed the potential closing of Hiram Davis medical center. While we were initially supposed to vote on the closing, the commission decided it is best to go over the details of the plan before making any choices that affect some of the Commonwealth’s most vulnerable.

Clean Slate Law
This past legislative session a bill was passed that went into effect July 1st that seals specific criminal records. This can be confusing or maybe even concerning upon hearing the news, so I wanted to provide you with a resource that helps explain exactly what this law does and does not do.

Virginia Is A Top State For Business
Two different state rankings have been released that have Virginia being one of the best states for businesses and jobs in the entire country!
The group Business Facilities ranked Virginia number one in customized workforce training, citing the Virginia Talent Accelerator Program. The Virginia Talent Accelerator Program is a cross-agency program that equips young professionals with a range of skills to help bolster Virginia’s growing economy.
A ranking from CNBC has Virginia as number three for business, a rise in ranking from last year’s list. This reflects the General Assembly's commitment to supporting our growing economy in new and innovative ways, and I am happy to see the state that I have called home for decades flourishing.

Public Safety Update
Public safety remains one of my top priorities, and I have remained in close contact with the Loudoun County Sheriff's Office to stay informed on public safety matters affecting our community. Recent events in the county have understandably raised concerns among residents, and I want you to know that maintaining an open line of communication with law enforcement is something I take seriously, not just during moments of concern, but as an ongoing part of representing this district. The Sheriff's Office plays a vital role in keeping our neighborhoods safe, and I will continue working alongside them to ensure our community has the resources and support it needs. If you ever have questions or concerns about public safety in Eastern Loudoun, my office is always here to listen.
The Loudoun County Sheriff's Office is seeking information on a Sexual Assault that occurred in the area of Whitewater Drive and Lowes Island Boulevard. I have contacted the liaison for LCSO requesting further information, as crimes like this are of the utmost importance to me. If you know anything, please contact the proper authorities.

Supervisor Saines' School Drive
Loudoun County's Sterling District Supervisor Koran Saines’ annual Back-to-School Supply Drive has returned to ensure every student in Sterling Park is ready for the upcoming school year by collecting school supplies like pencils, crayons, ruled paper, wipes and other supplies for a variety of needs and all age ranges. The Supply Drive will begin on Monday, July 6, 2026, and run through Monday, September 14, 2026. This initiative will help reduce the burden of school costs on families who unfortunately need to prioritize spending on household basics like rent, food, clothing, or medical supplies.
