Miller-Meeks Miller-Meeks Weekly Script August 2nd, 2026 View as Webpage Iowa Workers Are the Backbone of American Manufacturing Walk into any factory floor in Iowa, from Davenport to Pella to the small shops dotting our rural towns, and you will find the same thing: people who show up early, work hard, and take pride in building something real. That is the spirit that has always defined Iowa manufacturing, and it is a spirit I have seen firsthand. Last year, I traveled across our district on a Made in America manufacturing tour, visiting the plants and factories where Iowans build the machinery, equipment, and products that power this country. I met welders, machinists, engineers, and assembly line workers who told me the same story again and again. They love their work. They are proud of what they build. And they want Washington to get out of their way so they can keep doing it. For too long, our trade and tax policies made it easier to ship jobs overseas than to keep them here at home. Iowa families watched good manufacturing jobs disappear while Washington shrugged. That has to change, and it is why I have fought for policies that reward companies for building in America, cut the red tape strangling our manufacturers, and give Iowa workers a fair shot to compete and win. The results speak for themselves. Iowa’s manufacturing sector remains one of the most productive in the nation, and our workers consistently prove they can outwork and outbuild anyone. But we cannot take that for granted. Keeping jobs in Iowa means continuing to fight for pro-growth policies, supporting our workforce training programs, and standing up for the industries, like agriculture equipment, machinery, and food processing, that our economy depends on. That is why I am excited to announce another Made in America manufacturing tour is coming soon. I look forward to once again getting out of Washington and onto the factory floors of this district, hearing directly from the men and women who make Iowa run.  Iowa workers do not ask for much. They ask for a fair shot, a level playing field, and a representative who will fight for the jobs that built our communities. That is exactly what I intend to keep doing. Representing Iowa's First District Officially broke ground on the Forevergreen Road Extension, a project years in the making finally becoming reality for Coralville and North Liberty! I fought for and secured $2.5 million in Community Project Funding to make Phase 1 happen, and I’m not stopping there, I’ve already submitted a request for $3 million more to get Phase 2 done too. This is what delivering for our local communities looks like. Enjoyed visiting Maharishi International University in Fairfield! Toured the campus, including their certified sustainable living center, and had a great conversation about their degree offerings, student life, and the issues that matter most to their students. Iowa’s colleges are building the next generation of leaders, and in Congress I’m committed to supporting them every step of the way. Had the pleasure of meeting with Antariksha Sharma and her mom, Asha, constituents of mine from Fairfield! A student at Maharishi School, Antariksha was named one of the 2026 National STEM Champions for her groundbreaking project detecting Alzheimer’s from a single teardrop, using proteins from tears to help predict dementia and Alzheimer’s disease. As a physician, I’m blown away by her talent. The future of Iowa is bright! Had the privilege of meeting with Dr. Tahuanty Pena ahead of his deployment to the Middle East on August 5th. He serves as a physician at the University of Iowa and as a Major in the U.S. Army. As one of Iowa’s lung transplant physicians, Dr. Pena has dedicated his career to saving lives.
