To our family in DC and Maryland, we want to share with you that we are endorsing four candidates for local office and we couldn’t be more excited!
Sunil Dasgupta is a first generation immigrant who believes in protections that help people without hurting people, that health care is a basic human right, and that ALL students, including undocumented youth, should receive in-state tuition. We’re here to elect people who are ready to fight back against ICE and CBP -- Sunil is that candidate.
Janeese Lewis George centers all of her work with a racial justice lens, taking into account the historical and structural inequalities that continue to hold back immigrant communities. Janeese proudly has an outspoken campaign that is run by the people she is getting ready to serve.
Ed Lazere is running a proud progressive campaign that supports defunding the police and putting that money back into the community. Ed sees that DC is changing but that its rising prosperity is coming at the expense of increased homelessness, inadequate support for immigrants, the displacement of Black residents, and wider school inequities. Ed is running to change that.
Markus Batchelor is ready to make sure DC’s immigrant and undocumented residents have a seat at the table and a voice in their government. He is committed to defending immigrant communities from federal attacks and to use every local resource to back it up with legal aid and other services. Markus is the champion we need in office.
