John, this is Mary Trump.
At the White House Correspondents’ Dinner last weekend, CNN’s Kaitlan Collins won the award for Excellence in Presidential News Coverage Under Deadline Pressure.
When Donald took the stage, he said she shouldn’t have won it, called her reporting “fake,” and told her to “just smile.”
I don’t need to tell you that these remarks are disgusting, demeaning, and utterly sexist. But I can tell you why Donald said them:
In the house where Donald grew up, women were sidelined, and kindness was considered weakness. There’s nothing Donald finds more threatening than an intelligent, professional woman who is smarter than he is. His misogyny and cruelty are as much in evidence now as they have always been.
Donald holds the most powerful office in the world — and the people he appoints, the policies he backs, and the party that supports him perpetuate that misogyny and cruelty every single day.
So here’s what we do in response to a man who tells accomplished women to smile: we turn the tide. Will you contribute $25 to Transcend PAC before Friday’s end‑of‑month deadline to elect Democrats up and down the ballot who will reject misogyny and demand accountability? >>

Thank you,
