This race is going to be close. Here’s why I think we’re going to win.
I’ve gone up against Tuberville before. While Tuberville did win our race in 2020, I ended up receiving 920,000 votes—the most of any Democrat in Alabama history.
That was before folks had six years to see the damage Tommy Tuberville would do to our state as a Senator. Since then, he has spent more time looking out for big corporations, special interests, and above all else for himself, than looking out for the people of Alabama. And Alabamians are fed up.
From the more than $1 trillion cuts to health care he voted for, which have forced even more Alabama hospitals to close, to his blatant attempts to deprive Alabamians of the right to vote, to his insistence on rushing through huge data centers in Alabama against the express wishes of local communities, it’s no wonder that folks are angry at Tuberville.
All said, Tuberville is in a much worse position than he was in 2020. Republicans spent nearly $30 million in this year’s primary, but Republican turnout still fell by 25 percent, while turnout in our primary more than doubled. He’s still got a strong coalition behind him, but it’s almost certain that he’s going to receive fewer votes than in 2020.
That leaves us with a razor-thin margin. Here’s how we win.
First, we have to expand our coalition. We have to get the word out about how Tuberville has hurt Alabama, but we also have to give folks something better to believe in: a government that brings people together, solves problems, and helps ordinary Alabamians build a better life.
We’ve made great progress. So many Republicans and Independents have come out to our town halls, pulled up a chair, and told me they are ready for something different. We may not agree on everything. That’s all right. What matters is that we all agree Alabama deserves better.
Second, we have to reach the 920,000 Alabamians who voted for me before and make sure they come back to the polls this November.
To do that, I need your help. Reaching that many people takes organizers, volunteers, advertising, and a strong grassroots campaign in every corner of Alabama.
