Today is the first of the month, and for many, that means rent and mortgage payments are due. Six months into a global economic recession and public health crisis, Congress has left working and middle class Americans in the lurch. 

At the beginning of August, nearly one-third of American households owed money on missed mortgage or rent payments—and that number only worsens every week that Congress fails to pass another stimulus package. Supplemental employment benefits and eviction and foreclosure protections have lapsed, and lower wage jobs are hard to find for those who lost a position earlier in the year. 

Too many in Congress are simply not doing their jobs—and it is destroying trust and faith in our government and in our country’s ability to stay united in the face of daunting challenges. 

We need Representatives in Congress who actually understand the challenges facing regular people in this country, and who will take action to keep people safe and supported when major crises occur. Kathy has been a social worker in her community for over 40 years, counseling regular people through tough times. She knows what it takes to represent everyone.
