When the U.S. government terminated all UNFPA funding for lifesaving care, the loss didn't stay on a balance sheet. It reached refugee camps in Jordan, where tens of thousands of women and girls have spent more than a decade rebuilding their lives after fleeing war.

In these camps, UNFPA runs Women and Girls Safe Spaces and clinics that deliver prenatal checkups, safe delivery care, family planning, and support for survivors of violence. For many women and girls, these are the only doors open to them.

Here is what loss of funding means for women and girls in these camps:

* 46,000 women and girls will have reduced access to essential care.
* 33,100 women and girls who rely on Women and Girls Safe Spaces will be directly affected.
* 28,500 women and girls who rely on UNFPA clinics for lifesaving reproductive healthcare will be directly affected.

Without these services, expecting mothers face unsafe births and delayed emergency care. Girls face a higher risk of child marriage. Survivors of violence lose the one place they know is safe. Health workers expect deaths among high-risk cases to rise.
