Friend,

The Interior and Commerce Departments have quietly pulled off a massive legal heist. They didn't pass a new law. They didn't issue a sweeping decree. Instead, they completely gutted the Endangered Species Act (ESA) by redefining a single word: "harm."

Before you read on, will you help us fight back against this insanity by rushing an emergency donation to Public Land Warriors today? [ [link removed] ]

For over 50 years—and backed by a landmark 1995 Supreme Court ruling—the federal government defined "harm" to include the significant degradation or destruction of an endangered animal's habitat. If you bulldozed a creature's nesting ground or poisoned its water supply so it couldn't eat, breed, or shelter, you were breaking the law.

Under the administration’s new final rule, that protection is completely erased.

As of right now, destroying an endangered species’ nest, breeding ground, or ancient forest habitat is entirely legal—as long as a corporation doesn't directly kill or injure the animal on camera at that exact second.

It is a masterclass in bureaucratic cynicism, and the consequences are immediate:

* The Winter Loopholes: A property owner can now pave over the exact beaches migratory piping plovers rely on for spring nesting, because the birds happen to be south for the winter. When the birds return, their habitat is gone, but because no bird was crushed by a bulldozer in December, it’s completely legal.
* The Clear-Cut Pass: A timber conglomerate can clear-cut the mature pine trees that red-cockaded woodpeckers require to survive. The birds won't survive without them, but since the trees were cut down while empty, the extraction lobby gets a free pass.
* The Corporate Playbook: Interior Secretary Doug Burgum labeled 50 years of science-based habitat protections a "regulatory trap" that "burdened business." This rewrite is the ultimate payout to the mining, drilling, and real estate lobbies who want to strip-mine public assets without the "burden" of leaving a functional ecosystem behind.

They knew exactly how toxic this rule change was. During the comment period, the administration received over 220,000 public comments. An overwhelming 99% of Americans opposed the change—including state wildlife agencies in deep-red states like Georgia and North Dakota, who warned the move would have "dire consequences."

They ignored the public, they ignored the scientists, and they ignored their own state agencies to deliver a win for their corporate donors.

We are funding targeted digital ad blitzes in the home districts of the politicians who rubber-stamped this gutting of the ESA. We are going to ensure that trading away America's wildlife heritage for corporate profit is the most expensive mistake they ever make.

Will you chip in $25, $50, or $100 today to fund the rapid-response war chest and help us fight back against this absolute betrayal? [ [link removed] ]

They think they can solve their donors' problems by changing a definition in a dictionary. Let's show them what happens when the public demands accountability.

You take our land—we take your seat.

For the wild,
