John,

Rep. John Larson (D-CT) just released an updated version of his landmark bill to expand Social Security: The Social Security 2100 Act. If enacted, this bill would fulfill the promise of our Social Security system, extend the lifespan of the Social Security trust fund, and reduce inequality.

Roughly 90% of Democrats in the House co-sponsored this bill in the last Congress. We need to show grassroots support so that it can pass when Democrats re-take Congress! Become a grassroots co-sponsor today!

The legislation would increase benefits for current and new beneficiaries by eliminating the Social Security tax cap and by adding a tax on investment income for taxpayers making over $400,000.

Additionally, the bill would utilize an improved cost-of-living adjustment to more accurately take into account true costs incurred by seniors and implement a stronger minimum benefit, so an individual who works their whole life will not retire into poverty. On the whole, the 2100 Act wouldn’t simply stop automatic Social Security cuts, it would increase Social Security benefits by more than $750 per year on average.

The bill also includes provisions to fight back against the Trump Administration’s attacks on the Social Security Administration (SSA), including undoing staffing cuts made by the Trump Administration, blocking any future efforts by the Administration to close Social Security field offices, and preventing 'DOGE' and political appointees from accessing sensitive data systems at SSA.

The Social Security Administration projects that Senators elected this year will be in office when Social Security’s trust fund is exhausted. At that point, we will face a choice: Do we let an across-the-board cut to Social Security benefits take effect, or do we finally make the rich pay their fair share?

This bill would stop the crisis, and make sure Social Security’s trust fund survives for the rest of this century.

Congress should pass this bill NOW, before it’s too late.

Sign the petition to become a grassroots co-sponsor of the Social Security 2100 Act today!

Thank you,

Michael Phelan
