A letter from Lily

Friend,

In the halls of our colleges. On popular online streams. Even in my
hometown in New Hampshire. I keep hearing the same praise for
Communism, for Mao.

Every day, people call to implement the very regime that starved my
family and stripped us of basic human dignity.

My name is Lily Tang Williams, and I am fed up with the lies being
sown about communism.

I lived under Mao's regime in Chengdu, China, experiencing
firsthand how communism destroys lives.

Only the top 1%, connected to the Communist Party, were allowed
fresh milk. I had never once tasted it myself.

As the oldest daughter, it was my job to stand in the ration lines
— up before dawn, in the dead of winter, just to bring home our
flour.

One winter morning, I stood in that same line for our family's entire
month of meat. Jumping up and down just to stay warm. As we finally
reached the front, I dropped the ticket.

Gone. 2.7 lbs
of meat for
a  [1]family of five — lost because an 8‑year‑old's hands were
too cold to hold on.

That is how communism actually works. The worker gets almost
nothing. And when a mistake is made, the worker pays for it.

There is no golden paradise waiting on the other side of communism
— only famine, cold winters, and children standing in ration lines.
Anyone telling you otherwise is lying to you.

I fled that so-called paradise and came to America as a young
woman. Now I'm running for Congress to make sure this country — the
one that gave me everything communism never could — never has to
learn that lesson the way I did.
