This state means so much to me, and it has been the honor of my life to serve Colorado with deep dedication these last seven and a half years as Governor. I hope I can give back some small part of everything that Colorado has given to me.


Today on Colorado Day we celebrate the 150th birthday of our statehood. Colorado is called the "Centennial State” because we became a state in 1876 (on August 1st!), the centennial, which means 100th anniversary, of our nation’s founding.


And now as our country turns 250 years old, we turn 150 the same year! Our birthdays are forever linked.

Colorado Day: Community Fest and John Denver Sing Along, 9:00-10:00 AM: History Colorado will kick off Colorado Day with a sing along, with a live choir along with a free pancake breakfast on Broadway. The Colorado State Capitol will open at 9:00 AM on Saturday, August 1st. Colorado Day festivities include:

- 11:00 AM: Proclamation of Colorado Statehood Reenactment and Colorado Birthday Cake Cutting

Celebrate Colorado is a month-long statewide celebration honoring Colorado’s 150th birthday and celebrating the incredible parts of Colorado. Coloradans are invited to celebrate the state’s 150th birthday with friends, family, and community at more than 650 festivals, concerts, fairs, art exhibitions, shows, farmers markets, and other community events. Over the past eight years, we’ve delivered full-day kindergarten, universal preschool, and historic improvements in our public schools because education is the single best investment we can make in Colorado’s future. In Colorado, we start earlier, support school choice, invest in our students and teachers, focus on improving results, recognize that learning does not end at 3pm, and are making career and higher education more relevant and accessible. Helping Colorado become the best state in the nation for education is one of the proudest moments of my time as governor and this moment belongs to all the education leaders, communities, teachers, parents and especially our students who made it possible.


According to the U.S. News and World Report, our improvement is tied to preschool enrollment, increases in two-year college completion rate, and postsecondary college attainment.
