As violence escalates in Portland, President Trump declares if ‘mayor doesn’t clean it up, we will go in and do it for them’
President
Donald Trump has renewed his warning to Oregon Democratic Governor Kate Brown
and Portland Democratic Mayor Ted Wheeler that if they will not get political
violence in Portland, Oreg. under control soon, he will have no other choice
but to federalize the National Guard to restore civil order in the city.
“Portland is a mess, and it has been for many years. If this joke of a mayor
doesn’t clean it up, we will go in and do it for them!” the President wrote on
Twitter. The siege of the Mark O. Hatfield Federal Courthouse by Antifa and
other violent rioters has been going on for more than three months now in the
wake of the death of George Floyd in Minneapolis police custody. U.S. Marshals
and other federal law enforcement have been needed to keep the building from
being burnt to the ground. On Aug. 30 the violence turned deadly when Aaron
Danielson, a member of the Patriot Prayer group that often clashes with Antifa
in Portland, was shot dead on the streets in an unprovoked attack. The killer
remains at large. The President’s call for Oregon to bring in the National
Guard followed Wisconsin Democratic Governor Tony Evers agreeing to bring in
the National Guard following the Kenosha shootings of Jacob Blake by police
officer Rusten Sheskey on Aug. 23, and Anthony Huber and Joseph Rosenbaum by
Kyle Rittenhouse on Aug. 25. The escalation we are witnessing should be
incredibly chilling to the American people, a demonstration of what happens
when riots taking place across the country are allowed to continue unabated.
Now, armed citizens are hitting the streets and taking matters into their own
hands — with deadly results. Is anyone surprised? Portland is a powder keg and
has been a hotbed for violence by Antifa and other groups for years. It’s open
rebellion in the streets of America. And it will only get worse until
authorities can remove the political violence from their cities.

Utah State violates students' right to flush as University tests dorm sewage for Covid-19
The
school year is off to a “crappy” start for hundreds of students at Utah State
University (USU). That’s because the university forced them to quarantine in
their dorm rooms after a test of the sewage from four buildings found traces of
the Covid-19 virus. According to an online news story from Utah State Today,
“Researchers are monitoring COVID-19 infection trends at [the university] by
analyzing sewage samples taken from on-campus student housing facilities. The
method shows promising results in detecting the SARS-CoV-2 virus and could lead
to a standardized public health tool for tracking and minimizing infections.”
That isn’t sitting well with some students.

U.S. stock exchanges need to de-register 31 Chinese companies Pentagon says are owned or controlled by Chinese military
“This
latest list points to the danger of U.S. investments in Chinese assets.
It is a dead certain guarantee that these companies litter Emerging Market
Index Funds and U.S. investors have been unwittingly capitalizing these
companies who are part of China’s effort to gain military capacity to challenge
our nation. Every U.S. stock exchange which has any of the 31 companies listed
on them, need to de-register them immediately. What’s more portfolio
managers and index fund managers have a responsibility to rid these companies
from their investments. Americans don’t want to capitalize China’s military
industrial complex and those mutual funds which include Chinese investments
unwittingly make Americans investors in companies focused upon defeating the
United States of America.”

That was President Donald Trump on Twitter renewing his warning to Oregon Democratic Governor Kate Brown and Portland Democratic Mayor Ted Wheeler that if they will not get political violence in Portland, Oreg. under control soon, he will have no other choice but to federalize the National Guard to restore civil order in the city.

The rapid escalation we are witnessing should be incredibly chilling to the American people, a demonstration of what happens when riots taking place across the country are allowed to continue unabated. This is dangerous. Now, armed citizens are hitting the streets and taking matters into their own hands — with deadly results.
Is anyone surprised? Portland is a powder keg and has been a hotbed for violence by Antifa and other groups for years. It’s open rebellion in the streets of America. And it will only get worse until authorities can remove the political violence from their cities.
Last month, in testimony before the House Judiciary Committee on July 28, Attorney General William Barr blasted the violence, saying, “What unfolds nightly around the courthouse cannot reasonably be called a protest; it is, by any objective measure, an assault on the Government of the United States.”
Barr explained the violence at the end of July, “In recent nights, rioters have barricaded the front door of the courthouse, pried plywood off the windows with crowbars, and thrown commercial-grade fireworks into the building in an apparent attempt to burn it down with federal personnel inside. The rioters have started fires outside the building, and then systematically attacked federal law enforcement officers who attempt to put them out—for example, by pelting the officers with rocks, frozen water bottles, cans of food, and balloons filled with fecal matter. A recent video showed a mob enthusiastically beating a Deputy U.S. Marshal who was trying to protect the courthouse – a property of the United States government funded by this Congress – from further destruction. A number of federal officers have been injured, including one severely burned by a mortar-style firework and three who have suffered serious eye injuries and may be permanently blind.”
Why have Oregon authorities failed to act? That’s anyone’s guess but the American people are blaming liberal city mayors.
A July 29-30 Rasmussen Reports poll found that 50 percent of likely voters believe political leaders in major cities like Portland and Seattle are facilitating violent protests by limiting police response. That includes 72 percent of Republicans, 33 percent of Democrats and 48 percent of unaffiliated voters who think Democrats are allowing the urban violence to spread. Only 31 percent of all voters disagreed. 19 percent were unsure.
The only thing the riots — and the lack of a meaningful response in some cases — are accomplishing is to unite public opinion against the rioters.
And when there is a clear dereliction of duty by a state to maintain order, then the federal government has a responsibility under law to act.
Under 10 U.S. Code § 252, “Whenever the President considers that unlawful obstructions, combinations, or assemblages, or rebellion against the authority of the United States, make it impracticable to enforce the laws of the United States in any State by the ordinary course of judicial proceedings, he may call into Federal service such of the militia of any State, and use such of the armed forces, as he considers necessary to enforce those laws or to suppress the rebellion.”
Enacted in 1792 in response to the Whiskey Rebellion and updated in 1795, in 1807 as the Insurrection Act, in 1861 and 1956, the law allows the President to restore order whether the state’s governor wants it or not. It was used by George Washington to put down the Whiskey Rebellion, by Abraham Lincoln to wage the Civil War and by Dwight Eisenhower in 1957 when Arkansas attempted to use the Arkansas National Guard to block Brown v. Board of Education and Eisenhower federalized the Guard to enforce it. In Lincoln and Eisenhower’s cases, neither intervention was requested by state governors.
Are we witnessing the dawn of another civil war? It’s an unsettling thought, but the longer it takes for the violence to be quelled, the more it looks that way — and the danger grows that it will continue to spread everywhere. The President has a responsibility first and foremost to preserve the Union. Oregon had its chance. Time’s up.

Utah State violates students' right to flush as University tests dorm sewage for Covid-19
By Catherine Mortensen
The school year is off to a “crappy” start for hundreds of students at Utah State University (USU). That’s because the university forced them to quarantine in their dorm rooms after a test of the sewage from four buildings found traces of the Covid-19 virus.
According to an online news story from Utah State Today, “Researchers are monitoring COVID-19 infection trends at [the university] by analyzing sewage samples taken from on-campus student housing facilities. The method shows promising results in detecting the SARS-CoV-2 virus and could lead to a standardized public health tool for tracking and minimizing infections.”
That isn’t sitting well with some students.
“As far as I know, I have not given the school any permission to test my pee or pooh,” declared a senior named Emily who asked that we not use her last name. “I guess it’s kind of cool they have the technology to do this. I know they are just trying to prevent a [Covid] outbreak. But I am concerned they could start testing for drugs without my knowledge or consent.”
Wastewater-based epidemiology (WBE) is not a new science (used in the eradication of poliovirus for example), but the recent development of SARS-CoV-2 and the Covid-19 has brought the value of WBE into sharp focus.Universities across the country, including the University of Colorado-Boulder, the University of Arizona, the University of California-San Diego and Syracuse University are now testing dorm wastewater in an attempt to prevent Covid outbreaks.
While this may just be a stinky situation for some, others see a potential violation of constitutional rights.
“I think we need to get to the bottom of this,” said Rick Manning, President of Americans for Limited Government. “This seems like a gross violation of a student’s most personal rights. Maybe they should change Miranda to say, ‘Nothing you flush can be used against you in a court of law.’”
Scientists are already able to test for drugs in wastewater. Two years ago, scientists at the Washington State Department of Fish and Wildlife found that mussels in Seattle's waters were testing positive for opioids. The finding suggests "a lot of people" are taking oxycodone in the Puget Sound, researchers told a local television news crew.
“This stinks to high heaven,” added Manning. “People have a right to privacy and this feels like a huge violation.”
Some parents of USU students are venting their anger in private Facebook groups. One such group, which describes itself as “a coalition of small business owners committed to getting Utah back to work and promoting a brighter future,” has posts like these reacting to the wastewater testing:
“Is this really happening right now! I feel so strongly that we are being tested to see how far we will let this go until we push back!! Is anyone waking up yet!?”
“How desperate do you have to be to keep the lie going? I have no words for what our state has turned into. I am truly speechless.”
Emily said Covid and all the testing has turned the campus into a “sterile, unfriendly environment.”
“It’s a little too much of Big Brother for me,” she added. “I feel like I am always being watched now.”
She said masks are required both inside and outside of buildings, and on very little notice, facilities like the gym and dorm rooms are shut down. “Nothing feels welcoming about this at all. It’s almost like the school doesn’t want us here.”

U.S. stock exchanges need to de-register 31 Chinese companies Pentagon says are owned or controlled by Chinese military
Aug. 31, 2020, Fairfax, Va.—Americans for Limited Government President Rick Manning today issued the following statement urging U.S. stock exchanges to de-register 31 Chinese companies the Department of Defense has labelled as owned or controlled by the Chinese military:
“The Pentagon has named another eleven Chinese companies as owned or controlled by the Chinese military. The announcement comes on the heels of a June Pentagon announcement naming an additional twenty companies as Chinese military controlled. The size and scope of the companies named by the Department of Defense is breathtaking ranging from Huawei to China Communications Construction Company which is heavily involved in the Chinese government’s Belt and Road initiative.
“DoD’s on-going effort to identify Chinese companies which are national security threats is a momentous step forward in protecting American investors and most importantly businesses from entangling themselves with these risky and dangerous firms.
“The latest list includes: China Communications Construction Company (CCCC); China academy of Launch Vehicle Technology (CALT); China Spacesat; China United Network Communications Group Co Ltd; China Electronics Corporation (CEC); China National Chemical Engineering Group Co., Ltd. (CNCEC); China National Chemical Corporation (ChemChina); Sinochem Group Co Ltd; China State Construction Group Co., Ltd.; China Three Gorges Corporation Limited; China Nuclear Engineering & Construction Corporation (CNECC).
“This latest list points to the danger of U.S. investments in Chinese assets. It is a dead certain guarantee that these companies litter Emerging Market Index Funds and U.S. investors have been unwittingly capitalizing these companies who are part of China’s effort to gain military capacity to challenge our nation.
