Treatment Advocacy Center Mourns the Death of DJ Jaffe The Treatment Advocacy Center mourns the passing of cherished friend and former board member, DJ Jaffe. Jaffe, a longtime, relentless pioneer in efforts to prioritize the care of those with severe mental illness, passed away at his home in New York City. Read our full statement, here. In an effort to honor DJ, Barbara and E. Fuller Torrey are endowing a new advocacy position at the Treatment Advocacy Center specifically named after DJ. Hancq Testifies on Police Responses to Mental Health Crises Treatment Advocacy Center Director of Research Elizabeth Sinclair Hancq testified on August 13 before the Pennsylvania House Democratic Policy Committee on how police handle mental health calls. New Online Training Materials Help Communities Set Up AOT The Treatment Advocacy Center, in partnership with the American Psychiatric Association (APA), launched an eight-part series of online learning modules on assisted outpatient treatment (AOT) in May 2020. Since then, 182 people have participated in the modules from all over the country. Read more here. RESEARCH WEEKLY: August Recap DATAPOINT of the month 824,000 individuals with serious mental illness received inpatient psychiatric care in 2018 According to results from the National Survey of Drug Use and Health, an annual national household survey conducted by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), 824,00 individuals with serious mental illness received inpatient mental health services in 2018.
