The Rising Political Force With an Antisemitism Problem: DSA Backgrounder

The Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) is a rapidly rising force in American politics, and as its influence has grown, so has the reach of its extremism, putting Jewish Americans directly in the crosshairs. Inside the organization, anti-Zionism isn't just tolerated, it's a litmus test for belonging, all while DSA leaders have openly celebrated terrorist attacks against Jews. This isn't some fringe group: it's a movement with real power, and its rhetoric and agenda are carrying real consequences.
In May 2026, ADL Washington, D.C. teamed up for a community briefing with our partners at AJC Washington, D.C. and Greater Washington JCRC to examine Metro DC DSA's impact on our region. Maryland Man Sentenced for Attempting to Provide Material Support to ISIS

A Maryland man plotted to join and fight for ISIS . His "plan B" was to "gun down" Jews and people in the U.S. he believes support Israel. This month, he was sentenced to 15 years in prison. This is not an isolated case. ADL has documented 13 terrorist plots targeting Jews in just the past two years. The threat is real, rising and it demands our full attention. ADL takes out full page advertisement

This month, ADL took out a full-page ad in the Maine Sunday Telegram, the state's largest newspaper, calling out Graham Platner on his Nazi tattoo controversy and demanding better from both political parties. Platner's Totenkopf tattoo,

a skull-and-crossbones symbol tied to the SS unit that guarded Nazi concentration camps . The ad calls on leaders of both parties to show the courage to fully reject antisemitism whenever and wherever it surfaces in their ranks. Antisemitism cannot be a partisan issue: it demands clear, consistent condemnation regardless of party.

From Sydney to Boulder: A Global Reckoning on Antisemitic Violence

2025 was the deadliest year for antisemitic violence in the Jewish diaspora since 1994, with 20 people murdered in attacks across Sydney, Manchester, Washington, D.C. and Boulder. The

newly released J7 Report on Antisemitism documents over 23,000 antisemitic incidents across seven countries last year, with totals still up 136% and violent incidents up 97% compared to before October 7.
