This Disability Pride Month [[link removed]] , we recognize and celebrate the leadership, advocacy, and contributions of people with disabilities in California and across the country.
In 1990, disability rights activists organized the Capitol Crawl [[link removed]] to demand passage of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). Their organizing efforts helped shine a light on the barriers disabled Americans were facing and built support for one of the most important civil rights laws in our nation’s history.
This month, we celebrated 36 years of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) [[link removed]] , the landmark legislation that prohibits discrimination against individuals with disabilities in all areas of public life, removing barriers to employment, transportation, public services and other critical areas. The ADA expanded access, opportunity, and inclusion for millions of Americans with disabilities – and its legacy reminds us that meaningful progress is built over time, and that the fight for disability rights continues today.
We invite you to check out this important conversation [[link removed]] about disability rights and activism with CADEM Executive Director Melanie V. Ramil and Jennifer Kumiyama, Executive Director of the Disabled Resources Center, founder of Long Beach Disability Pride, and the voice of Dahlia in Disney's ‘Wish.’

This month and always, we celebrate the disability community and reaffirm our commitment to building a more accessible and inclusive future. California Democrats will continue fighting until every person with a disability–here in California and across the country–has the same access, opportunity and freedom to fully participate in every aspect of society.
