We are stopping them.

Yesterday, the White House expected Senate Republicans to advance Todd
Blanche’s nomination for attorney general. Instead, the Senate Judiciary
Committee was forced to postpone the vote because Trump did not have the
votes.

That is a huge victory.

The White House pulled out all the stops. Chief of Staff Susie Wiles met
with Republican Senate leaders as the administration scrambled to advance
Blanche and its other priorities. But Senators John Cornyn and Thom Tillis
refused to fall in line, and Republicans have not been able to move the
nomination forward yet.

People For helped lead the campaign that brought us to this moment. We
mobilized advocates across the country, worked with coalition partners,
and pressed senators to oppose a nominee who has repeatedly put Trump’s
interests ahead of the rule of law.

This victory belongs to everyone who signed our petition, contacted their
senators, shared our campaign, and helped turn Blanche’s nomination into a
political liability Republicans could no longer ignore.

Now Trump is trying to turn defeat into delay.

Rather than provide written guarantees that the $1.8 billion slush fund is
dead or address the sweeping IRS deal protecting Trump, his family, and
his businesses, Trump has lashed out at Cornyn and Tillis. He threatened
to withdraw Blanche’s nomination temporarily, keep him in power as acting
attorney general, and nominate him again after both senators leave office
in January.

And his scheme to wait out the opposition could backfire spectacularly. If
voters put Democrats in control of the Senate this November, Blanche may
never get another chance at confirmation.

But we cannot count on Trump to wait. The Senate Judiciary Committee could
reschedule Blanche’s vote at any time. Cornyn, Tillis, and every other
Senate Republican must know that the opposition will only grow if the
White House tries again.

Blanche’s record is as disqualifying today as it was before the vote was
postponed. He helped Trump evade accountability, mishandled the Epstein
files and subjected survivors to further trauma, oversaw a Justice
Department bent to serve the president, enabled an indefensible IRS
agreement protecting Trump and his businesses, and refused to provide
straight answers about a slush fund that could still benefit Trump and his
allies.

When Blanche mistakenly told senators, “I’m his lawyer,” he accidentally
revealed the truth at the center of his nomination. He still sees himself
as Trump’s lawyer, and Trump wants to put him in charge of law enforcement
for the entire country.

Yesterday proved that Blanche can be stopped. Now we need to keep him
stalled, widen the opposition, and defeat his nomination for good.
