While the hour is late, our September meeting will focus on ways you can still work to get out the vote and push candidates to be stronger climate champions. We’ll hear from Jenny Marienau, campaign manager at 350 Action, and from Saad Amer, founder of Plus 1 Vote, about how they’re reaching and engaging people. People’s Climate Movement – NY will co-sponsor this event. Come learn the many ways you can have an impact. You must pre-register here for this meeting.
Climate Wednesdays continues online on September 16, 7–8:30 pm, with “Green Collar Jobs: Making a Living, Forging a Better World”
With over a million New Yorkers out of work and a steadily warming climate, our communities need green jobs now more than ever. A "green recovery" can create jobs while revitalizing our neighborhoods, transforming our energy infrastructure, and healing our ecosystems. Where are the climate-friendly jobs now, where will they be in the coming years, and how can New York create more of them in a way that combats social and environmental injustice?

Join City Action for an hour of phone banking power!
Every Thursday at lunchtime City Action will gather on Zoom for phone banking parties to gain support for our most pressing campaigns. Join the City Action crew for some principled persuasion. This Thursday, September 3, starting at 12:30 pm, learn more about the Renewable Rikers Act and help us bring more allies on board! MARK YOUR CALENDARS: Astoria NRG Plant teach-in September 9
Please join City Action and the Legislation Committee on Wednesday, September 9, from 7–8 pm for a teach-in to learn about a proposed fracked gas energy plant that NRG Energy Company has been secretly trying to gain approval for in Astoria. But the science is clear, we must begin aggressively decarbonizing to make way for renewables!
Join our teach-in, led by a broad coalition of local environmental and community groups, including 350Brooklyn, Sane Energy, DSA, Food & Water Action, NY Communities for Change, the Sierra Club, and others to learn how we can stop this project! A Great Shoe Strike
Last Saturday, 350Brooklyn participated in the worldwide Shoe Strike for Climate, organized by Fridays For Future. In a time of Covid-19 when we can't gather in large groups to raise awareness of the climate crisis, we let our shoes do the talking for us. Volunteers donated 250 (!) pairs of shoes which we laid out in front of the Brooklyn Borough Hall steps. In the shoes we put small signs describing all the actions we could take in Brooklyn to address this crisis. Brooklyn Borough President Eric Adams and Assembly Member Jo Anne Simon gave shoes to the cause, too. We used the occasion to promote NY Renews initiatives on behalf of us all. And we had some great conversations with people passing by!

350Brooklyn’s Climate Idea Exchange, the group that presents the Climate Wednesdays series, is getting ready to launch a podcast series based on interviews with climate leaders and activists. There’s no shortage of content, but our all-volunteer team needs help with production. Specifically, we’re looking for a sound designer/co-producer who has expertise working in a digital-audio workstation, knows how to cut and edit tape, can listen critically to create smooth transitions, and is ready to work collaboratively with our host and the rest of the podcast team.
