Happy National Poll Worker Recruitment Day! This is the latest very real holiday, and we can (proudly) confirm that we did not make it up ourselves!

Here’s the deal: Usually the majority of poll workers are kind, 60+-year-old folks who want everyone to be able to vote with no problems, which warms our heart. However, this situation goes from very sweet to extremely terrifying during COVID times. The 60+ age group is the most at risk in this pandemic.

What’s more, when polling places don’t have enough poll workers, those polling places close down, which can leave many voters unheard. In an election year where voting has already become more complicated by this pandemic, we absolutely cannot risk losing the votes we need and leaving voices unheard. 

We can’t rely on at-risk seniors working on the frontlines to keep the basic functions of our democracy operational! So guess what all you under-60’s? We gotta step up. 

Vote Save America is recruiting 10,000 poll workers to work on Election Day. If you are healthy and able, sign up to be trained and work as a poll worker.

As of today, we’ve recruited just over 7,400. Side note: Even though Election Night is usually when you’re crowded around a TV shoveling stress snacks into your mouth as Steve Kornacki zooms into return counts from Waukesha County on his magic map, the day itself is often spent waiting around for real results while people plaster unhelpful exit polls all over Twitter. Take it from us, you’d be doing something way more worthwhile by working the polls—we promise. And if you can’t sign up, take a few minutes to share the opportunity with people who can! 

A lot of the specifications about who can be a poll worker and where you can serve differs based on your location, and our friends at Power the Polls will train you and help you navigate all the rules! But one thing’s for sure—your neighbors and our democracy are counting on you, and we can’t fuck mess this up.
