Happy Labor Day, John! Today is a reminder of the importance of labor unions, the backbone of the American workforce and the middle class. Unions lift up millions of workers across our country. Look no further than the Denver teachers' strike in February. More than 2,000 teachers, backed by their union, went on strike to demand better wages. And with overwhelming public support, their collective efforts resulted in a much-deserved pay raise of 11.7%. That’s what makes America so great. We can come together to achieve big things. Labor unions gave us the weekend, set a federal minimum wage and won the battle for overtime pay. Unions are demanding better working conditions and are fighting on the front lines to advance paid family leave and paid sick days across the country. Our right to collectively bargain is essential to the American workforce and our success as a nation. We have to protect it at all costs, and that’s what I’ll do as your next U.S. Senator. Have a great Labor Day, John Walsh John Walsh was appointed by President Obama to serve as Colorado's top federal prosecutor, where he worked to hold big banks and drug companies accountable.
