HELLO,?

Happy Monday, Sex Ed Advocates!

The time to speak up is now! Next week, the State Board of Education starts
debating the final draft of updated health education standards - including
those guiding sex ed for all 5.4 million Texas students.

If you care about sex ed in Texas, NOW is the time to make your voice
heard! We have all the information you need to easily engage in our Quick
Advocacy Guide [3] and our full Advocacy Toolkit [4]. These resources and
more are available on the Texas is Ready [5] website.

HERE IS YOUR SEX ED ADVOCACY TO-DO LIST FOR THE WEEK:

* Reach out to your State Board of Education Member [6] to share your
priorities by Friday, Sept 4. (Hint: ours include ensuring developmentally
appropriate, medically accurate abstinence-plus sex ed on topics like
contraception and STI prevention, consent and boundaries, healthy
relationships, abstinence, and respect for all, regardless of sexual
orientation or gender identity.)
* Share your written feedback on the draft standards with the Texas
Education Agency by Friday, September 4. You can read the draft standards
here [7].
* Write a letter to the editor of your local paper sharing your views on
the topic by Wednesday, September 2.
* Share this information with friends and community members TODAY.

Please reach out if we can help you engage in this important process. The
standards are being updated for the first time in 22 years, so this a
historic opportunity to address the persistently high rates of unintended
pregnancy and STIs among Texas youth.

Onwards!
