This week, Congresswoman Delia Ramirez visited the Campbell County Detention Center in Kentucky to conduct congressional oversight and check on her constituents that are being held there.

What she witnessed reinforced that ICE cannot be reformed.

People are struggling to access the medication and medical care they need to survive, receiving inadequate, sometimes rotten food, and left in freezing rooms without blankets or padding to sleep on. No one, regardless of their immigration status, should be treated this way.

This is not about one detention center.

It is about an immigration system built on fear and dehumanization in order to help billionaires and big corporations get richer off government contracts and cheap labor while scapegoating immigrants. It's about using our own tax dollars to fund a system that strips people of their dignity and kills people in the street.

We should be investing in healthcare, housing, social services, and public education—not more detention centers and ICE officers that terrorize communities.

That’s why last week, Delia stood alongside advocates, immigrant leaders, and families who have lost loved ones in ICE custody to launch the End the ICE Age campaign: an effort to build support in Congress for the Melt ICE Act that would end detentions, disrupt DHS immigration enforcement, and redirect resources to fund communities instead of cages.
