I’ve spent a lot of time in this campaign traveling across Iowa. Whether biking from Perry Center to Guthrie or traveling to all 21 counties of Iowa’s Third in 30 days (it was supposed to be in 21 days, but a tornado warning forced us to postpone — better safe than sorry!).

As I have the chance to speak to Iowans — no matter their personal party, background, or town — one thing is clear: Iowans have lost faith in our government.

And it’s for good reason.

For years, the people we’ve sent to Washington have spent their time playing petty partisan games while ignoring the needs of Iowans back at home.

I’m running for Congress because I fundamentally believe Iowans deserve to be heard. Our current representative isn’t listening — he’s never held an open town hall.

Zach Nunn isn’t showing up because he is terrified of facing the people his votes are hurting.

He’s not doing his job, and Iowans are paying the price. I know how to hear people out. I know how to show up even when it’s hard.

As a hospital chaplain, I walked into the hardest moments of people’s lives every single day. As a parish pastor, I visited every person in the parish directory at their home no matter our differences, because that’s how you build trust. As a State Senator, I held countless town halls and personally knocked on thousands of doors of constituents regardless of partisan affiliation. Now, I’m hosting town halls in every county and showing up wherever I’m invited — coffee shops, houses of worship, folks’ living rooms — because that’s exactly how I’ll lead in Congress.
