CPC's Will Swaim & Jackson Reese on Building a Movement That Wins

What will it take to create lasting change in California?

That's the question at the heart of a recent episode of the Radio Free California podcast, where California Policy Center President Jackson Reese joins CPC CEO Will Swaim for a candid conversation about the forces shaping California politics—and how California can chart a different course.

The discussion begins with a listener's question: What’s it going to take to change a state in which government failure is seemingly never punished?

Jackson and Will argue that the answer lies in understanding the sophisticated political infrastructure government unions have built in the Golden State. By organizing thousands of government employees for political action and channeling political spending through a web of allied organizations, union leaders have created a system designed to expand government and maintain union influence at every level.

But understanding the system is only half the conversation. Jackson and Will discuss why real change requires cultivating the leaders, organizations, and networks needed to stand up to union power.
