Did you know that most local election officials are prohibited by state law from processing mail-in ballots until Election Day? As weeks of ballots pile up, they can't even open the envelopes.
Trump is depending on this quirk to challenge the legitimacy of our election. He wants days or weeks of limbo after the election as ballots are processed and counted -- which he can use to allege fraud. He may even urge armed militias to protest election officials.
We have a plan to stop Trump's undermining of democracy -- working with top congressional leaders on a bill to liberate local officials in all 50 states to process ballots early.
We also have a Plan B: We're lobbying in key swing states to give local officials more time to process ballots so they have quicker results around November 3 and Trump's plans get foiled.
Trump is also willing to take advantage of senior citizens being vulnerable to COVID to provoke a crisis in election volunteers and force fewer voting locations to open. To counter him, we are also partnering with Power The Polls to sign up as many election volunteers as possible. Not just on November 3, but before and after.
