Today marks the 61st anniversary of Medicare and Medicaid, a moment in history that changed care from something that was the responsibility of individuals to systems of care that support people throughout their lifespan.  

This wasn’t just a legislative victory. It happened because people like you refused to accept a system that denied them the care and support they deserved. 

Our work to protect Medicaid today is a direct continuation of this legacy. I saw this a year ago, when we gathered in Washington, D.C., for a 60-hour Medicaid vigil to fight back against the largest cuts to Medicaid. And I saw this when caregivers, disabled advocates, workers, and families showed up at town halls and testified at public hearings this year. 

Although we didn’t stop the cuts, the fight for a better care system must continue, and you can help push it forward.

Medicaid is still under threat. We saw that this past month when the federal government released the rule to implement dangerous new Medicaid work requirements, and we came together to speak out and sent over 2,000 comments opposing it.  

We’re still paying attention to what the federal government does next on this proposal, but whatever the outcome, we’ll need to stay informed, come together, and continue advocating.
