CHICAGO—The Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation (IDFPR) announced on National Whistleblower Day the launch of a new online page for whistleblower complaints to be submitted to the Division of Financial Institutions. 

IDPFR now offers a dedicated whistleblower complaint page where industry insiders can directly submit to the agency complaints about potential violations of law they may have witnessed or be aware of within the industries the Division regulates. Previously, such complaints were submitted through a general consumer complaint process. The new page provides a dedicated reporting channel, guidance, and education regarding potential protections.  

“Whistleblower complaints are essential to helping IDFPR uncover unlawful conduct across the industries we regulate,” said Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation Secretary Mario Treto Jr. “This dedicated reporting page ensures that those who come forward are both heard and informed about potentially available protections.”

Reporting on illegal conduct within an industry helps create a fair and honest marketplace, benefiting employers, employees, and consumers. In May, IDFPR announced a new online portal for the submission of financial related consumer complaints to the Division. 

Now, by providing a process for complaints by whistleblowers as well, IDFPR continues its commitment to strengthening oversight by providing a streamlined method for industry insiders - who often have unique information than the general public - to report potential misconduct to the Division. 

Today’s announcement also aligns IDFPR with several federal regulators who receive industry whistleblower complaints, including the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency, and the Federal Reserve.
