Last week, Hurricane Laura brought good and bad news to working families in Texas and Louisiana. They can now use your help.
The amazingly good news: One of the most powerful hurricanes to make landfall ever, Laura’s storm surge was forecast by the National Weather Service to be “unsurvivable.” Barely under a Category 5, it struck with deadly force. BUT loss of life, though always tragic, was very limited. Most people pegged to bear the brunt of the storm evacuated. And Laura did not hit major population centers directly.
The bad news: Southwestern Louisiana saw major property damage, affecting thousands of working families. Within Texas, Orange and other Golden Triangle locales near the Louisiana border saw damage as well, leaving some Brothers and Sisters wondering how they will resume their lives.
We want to lift up these families.
The state labor federation has a long tradition of responding to disasters, and we will deploy the Texas AFL-CIO Disaster Relief Fund to boost working families whose homes have been damaged or destroyed.
This time, we expect to devote most of our contribution to Louisiana families in solidarity with our Brothers and Sisters across the state border. When Texas has suffered major disasters, Louisiana working families have come through with help. Now it’s our turn. We will also help a smaller number of Texans whose homes suffered major damage in the hurricane.
Can you contribute? One hundred percent of donations to the Texas AFL-CIO Disaster Relief Fund will go to help working families in need. While we cannot make any families whole, we can send a powerful message that the union movement stands with them.

As always, thank you for your generosity, in any amount, and for continuing a long legacy of standing with union families at a low point in their lives.
In Solidarity,
Texas AFL-CIO
