Dear John,
I wish it were not so, but we are still in a legal battle with Texas
Attorney General Ken Paxton.
He sued me and Powered by People last year to try to stop me from speaking
against the Republican gerrymander of five Texas congressional districts
and to stop our organization from doing the effective registration and
turnout work that could spell his defeat in November’s senate contest.
While we have won at the district and appeals court level (where the
Republican justices reprimanded Paxton for his attack on my First
Amendment rights), we are not out of the woods yet.
More court dates and more attacks from Paxton.
And that means more money that we must spend to defend ourselves and take
the fight to him. We must win both so that we can continue to work and so
that it is clear that our government cannot intimidate or silence the
voices it disagrees with.
These fights have cost us more than $500,000 so far.

finally defeat Ken Paxton in court and continue our important organizing
work on the ground.
Thank you,
Beto
