The House just passed a critical provision of the Momnibus focused on NIH research funding to help tackle the maternal health crisis!

This is a major step forward. The measure will strengthen research capabilities at the National Institutes of Health so we can better understand — and eliminate — the root causes of maternal mortality, morbidity, and severe health disparities in our communities.

The United States still faces the worst maternal mortality rate in the developed world, with Black mothers three to four times more likely to die from pregnancy-related complications than white women. Most of these deaths are entirely preventable.

When I co-founded the Black Maternal Health Caucus in 2019, my goal was clear: save moms’ lives. We’ve made tremendous progress since then — securing hundreds of millions in federal funding, passing the Protecting Moms Who Served Act into law, and now moving key pieces of the Momnibus through the House.

But moms can’t wait for incremental progress alone. We need Congress to pass the rest of the Momnibus to fully address every driver of this crisis.
