One week before the Primary Election, over 832,000 Michiganders have cast their ballot

"First weekend in-person early voting turnout up 78% over 2024 primary"

*LANSING, Mich.* – With one week left until Primary Election Day, Aug. 4, a total of 832,435 Michigan voters have already cast their ballot – a turnout rate of 11.3% of all active registered voters in the state. More than 800,000 have voted with a mail (absentee) ballot and over 30,000 cast their ballot at an early voting site.

As of 7 a.m. today, July 28, a total of 1,980,053 voters have requested a mail ballot for the Primary Election, including 1,921,287 on the permanent mail ballot list [ [link removed] ], and 801,695 voters have returned their completed ballot. Compared to the same time in 2022, mail ballot requests have increased 58.8% and ballots returned are up nearly 36%.

Early in-person voting sites opened statewide on July 25 with 30,740 voters casting their ballot in the first three days. Turnout at early voting sites is up 78% over the first weekend of early voting for the August 2024 Primary Election. Early voting will continue through Sunday, Aug. 2, for at least 8 hours every day. Mail ballots must be received by clerks no later than 8 p.m. on election night, Aug. 4. Instead of using the mail to return a ballot, voters should put it in a local ballot drop box or hand-deliver it to their clerk’s office.  

Michiganders who have not yet registered to vote can do so at their clerk’s office and then vote an absentee ballot in one trip through 8 p.m. on Election Day.
