TELL Congress: The Senate is set to confirm Trump's election denying nominee for director
of national intelligence. If they do, Congress could move to quickly pass
Trump's dream mass surveillance bill without protecting our privacy and
personal communications. Sign the petition: Block Trump's AI-powered spying abuses NOW!

The Senate is one vote away from confirming Jay Clayton — a Trump
loyalist, election denier, and danger to democracy — to be the next
director of national intelligence (DNI).
In Clayton's confirmation hearing, he refused to say that Joe Biden won
the 2020 election and refused to explain the chilling subpoenas he issued
to New York Times journalists for reporting on the Trump administration.^1
If Clayton is confirmed, Congress could quickly move to extend the Trump
administration's mass surveillance powers via Section 702 of the Foreign
Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA). Trump wants to keep spying loopholes
open so Stephen Miller and Kash Patel can look through Americans' private
data and personal communications without a warrant. Our lawmakers must
stop him.

Demand Progress has led hundreds of advocates and a bipartisan coalition
in Congress to stop lawmakers from rubber-stamping Trump's spying abuses.
We've blocked an extension of FISA three times. The next fight for our
privacy rights is happening right now.
Despite criticism of Trump's abuse of powers, some Democrats are still
working with Republicans to pass FISA without critical privacy reforms.^2
With the federal government's full embrace of artificial intelligence
tech, these unchecked spying powers are even more dangerous.
Our lawmakers must hear our opposition NOW and vote to protect our
privacy, and our elections, from government overreach.
