John --
Today, I am proud to announce that our campaign staff has officially unionized under the International Union of Painters and Allied Trades. First, let me share some thoughts about the power of organized labor and how wrong it is for our political leaders to attack workers' rights:
I simply don't understand what Governor Mike Dunleavy was thinking when he directed his Attorney General to draft a legal opinion attacking the rights of Alaskan workers last week.
When workers can come together and organize, all of us benefit. Unions are the backbone of the working class -- the reason why we have Labor Day, weekends, workplace safety protections, and so much more.
But when workers are silenced -- when organized labor is attacked -- income inequality skyrockets as the economy becomes more rigged for the rich and powerful.
Alaskans are tired of politicians who work for special interests and attack workers' rights. They want a different approach. Someone who listens. Someone who knows how to be as resilient, independent, and tough as our people and our land. But also someone who knows how to treat people right and get things done. It's just how we do things here.
I believe treating workers with fairness, respect, and good wages and benefits must be the foundation of any effort to turn Alaska's economy around.
In addition to unionizing, our campaign is working to hold Dan Sullivan accountable to workers by asking him to support the Davis-Bacon Act, to pledge to back organized labor, and to work with me to stop Dunleavy's Attorney General from attacking Alaska workers.
So, I am delighted to have a unionized campaign staff and team that is fighting for our shared values. I hope this gives you confidence knowing that when you donate or volunteer support this movement, you are backing a workplace that treats employees the right way.
If you are proud to be a part of this unionized team too, please chip in $5 or more today so we have the resources to take on the anti-union special interests that back Mike Dunleavy, Dan Sullivan, and Mitch McConnell.
