At the time of his departure, Gonzales was being primaried by Neo-Nazi Brandon Herrera. With no serious opponents Herrera was the last man standing and is now the nominee for TX-23. Today, in a seismic new development, Speaker Johnson announced he will be backing Herrera at the hilt signaling an extreme new turn to the extreme far-right for the Republican Party. Herrera, 2nd in line, dressed in a WW2 era German SS Paratrooper Uniform carrying a German MG-42 performing a Nazi goosestep march. Herrera made a name for himself as a gun Youtuber and in his videos he has cosplayed as a Nazi-Paratrooper, flaunted his 1939 edition of Mein Kampf, and made crude sexual jokes about the mothers of school shooting victims. In one video on his channel, he recreated the MLK assassination, reviewed the alleged shooter's rifle, and shot an MLK target dummy at close range. Herrera prides himself on his neo-Confederate credentials as a member of the Sons of Confederate Vets. Refers to the Civil War as the War of Northern Aggression, and advertises an annual Yankee shoot, where he and fellow neo-confederates shoot at "posters of their favorite Yankees."
