Our July fundraising deadline is Friday at midnight, and I want to give you a
behind-the-curtain look.



I set a simple internal goal for July: 1,000 grassroots donors. Not a dollar
figure. A thousand people.



Most campaigns only look at the number with the dollar sign in front of it.



Not me — I told my team to stop showing me dollar totals.



We close the books on July this Friday at midnight. Here's where that goal

I want to know how many people chipped in this month. That's the only number
that tells you whether a movement is alive.



A Silicon Valley oligarch can text some of his liberal friends, and boom — a
six-figure report in five minutes.



But does that show momentum? No, quite the opposite.



I would rather be able to say a thousand hardworking, God-fearing, taxpaying
folks from America's heartland backed me in a quiet summer month than point at
some dollar total a handful of donors put up.



One of those is a movement. The other is a bank balance.
