I grew up in a working-class family in Allagash.
We didn’t always have heat or running water. Sometimes, we relied on food assistance to make ends meet.
My dad was a logger out in the woods, and one day he and his fellow loggers had to stand up to a wealthy landowner who was threatening their wages. They weren’t even asking for more money, they just wanted to be paid fairly.
“Take the pay cut or go home,” they were told.
I’ll never forget that day. I was only 11 years old, and watched my dad fight for something bigger than all of us — a basic fairness every worker should be entitled to, the ability to make ends meet, the ability to put food on the table for their family.
I know what it’s like to worry about paying the bills on time. I know what it’s like to fight, not just for your own future, but for the future of everyone around you, too.
And it’s that fight I’ll bring to the United States Senate. For too long, our voices have been ignored and crushed by powerful corporations and special interests who make backroom deals with greedy politicians.
