This week, the Senate education committee is considering a bill that would stop President Donald Trump from moving special education, K-12 education, higher education, and Native education out of the Department of Education.

If the responsibilities for these students move out of the Education Department, it will mean students and their parents will have a harder time getting the services they need so they can learn—services like IEPs, English language assistance, classroom aides for students with mobility issues, transportation, and more.

We need to tell our lawmakers: Protect students from Trump, Education Secretary Linda McMahon and Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. Keep education responsibilities with the Department of Education, and help students get the resources they need to succeed.

Since being sworn in, Trump and McMahon have used every tool at their disposal to weaken public schools. By creating chaos and moving educational responsibilities around the government, Trump and McMahon have made parents and kids navigate a difficult system to get the accommodations they need to learn.

On top of that, Trump has proposed funding cuts and illegally withheld funding for our cash-starved public schools, leaving kids without the tools they need.

This isn’t about protecting an agency. This is about getting kids what they need to thrive. Instead of creating opportunities for a better life, the Trump administration is making a bureaucratic mess of our education system and abandoning our public schools. Click here to stop them.

No student or family should have to jump through hoops to get the services and resources they need. This is about making sure every student has what they need to succeed.
