Trump’s new 100% drug tariff will crush Montana families. We must fight back.

Dear John xxxxxx,

As a cardiologist and Army veteran, I spent my career taking care of patients across rural Montana. Today, I am asking for your help to take that same fight to Washington. Just this week, President Trump announced a reckless plan to impose a 100% tariff on imported generic drugs starting in 2028, which will later skyrocket to 200%.

While Washington politicians claim this will protect America, the reality on the ground is devastating. As reported by TIME Magazine ([link removed]) , experts warn that these massive tariffs risk making lower-cost generic medicines millions of Americans rely on more expensive and harder to access.

Generic drugs make up more than 90% of prescriptions filled in the U.S.. This policy isn't a tax on corporations—it is a hidden tax on your healthcare, driving up out-of-pocket costs for daily essentials like ibuprofen, acetaminophen, insulin, and life-saving heart medications. Montana seniors and families cannot afford to have their pharmacy bills doubled by corporate penalties and political posturing.

My opponent, Representative Troy Downing, is bankrolled by the standard party machine and big money from massive pharmaceutical interests. Downing has consistently defended these harmful trade policies, completely ignoring how they strain family budgets. He is perfectly happy to stay silent and protect his donors while corporate special interests profit at your expense.

I am running as an Independent because I answer only to you—not a political party or pharmaceutical lobbyists. We need a medical professional in Congress who understands that public health must always come before partisan trade wars and special interest cash. To take on broken two-party gridlock and protect our rural healthcare, I need your support today.
